MY APPEAL

A dreamer who believes in a gender equal world for all. I am really proud to be attempting to run/walk the 5km at the TATA STEEL KOLKATA MARATHON on 17th December to raise funds for Swayam. The work Swayam has been doing for 28 years to support survivors of violence and work with the larger society to prevent violence is incredibly IMPORTANT, VALUABLE AND MUCH NEEDED.

My friends and family all know how committed and passionate I am about making a difference in people's lives and the world we live in. A sincere request to all my friends and family to contribute any amount (big or small) and support an amazing organization- Swayam and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a Kolkata based women’s organisation working towards redressing and preventing discrimination and violence against women and girls, and as well as for women’s empowerment. It was established and registered as a Public Charitable Trust in Kolkata, India in 1995.

SWAYAM literally means ‘oneself’ and was set up to provide a holistic support service to women facing violence in their lives. On one hand SWAYAM facilitates the empowerment of women survivors of violence, their children and families. On the other hand, it generates discussion, debate and action in society to challenge social norms, values and systems that deem discrimination and violence against women and girls acceptable.
Swayam is working across three support centres located at Deodar Street & Metiabruz in Kolkata and at Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India.

ABOUT ME

I am a Feminist who has been working for over 23 years within the Human Rights and Women's Rights Sector in England and in India. I have been working with Swayam based in Kolkata, India for 9 years and I am currently leading Swayam.
